Greatest Game Ever Played

Greatest Game Ever Played Display

On June 11, 2008 The Ouimet Fund unveiled a new display on “The Greatest Game Ever Played” in the Ouimet Room at William F. Connell Golf House. The Ouimet Fund worked closely in development of Mark Frost’s highly acclaimed book, The Greatest Game Ever Played. The book won the USGA International Book Award in 2003 (later named Herbert Warren Wind Award). The Fund also worked with Mr. Frost as he produced and wrote the screenplay for the 2005 Disney Studios movie version.

The world premiere of the movie was held in North Attleboro during the Deutsche Bank Championship and was attended by many Ouimet and Massachusetts golf supporters and players in the Deutsche Bank Championship. A pre-movie private reception including Mr. Frost, Director Bill Paxton, Disney CEO Richard Cook, and Governor Mitt Romney was held in the room. Shia LaBeouf played Francis Ouimet and came to this room to study for the part.

In the display we have the original manuscript with editor’s notes (contributed by Mr. Frost), photos from the premiere, a hat from the movie, a pass from the premiere (signed by Shia), a movie poster, a movie DVD and a copy of the book.

Mr. Frost created a Frost Family Ouimet endowed scholarship for scholars studying film, drama or the arts.
