Established in 2008, this award was created by Ouimet Director Joseph Onstott in honor of his late son. The Onstott Scholarship is in memory of Kevin Onstott, who died at the age of 27 in an accident on December 15, 2004 at Northridge Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina where he was Assistant Superintendent. Proceeds of the 23rd Annual Onstott Invitational at Woodland Golf Club on August 11 benefited the scholarship. The Onstott Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending Methodist University, NC State or for another worthy scholar.
Our 2009-2010 winner is Matt Trachy of Newton. Matt is in his sophomore year at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Political Science with a 3.4 GPA. He performed his service to golf at Brae Burn Country Club where he worked as a caddie for eight years. Matt is extremely active on campus, and would like to attend law school after graduation. He spoke this summer at our Ouimet Society outing at Brae Burn.
