Ouimet Participates in Deutsche Bank Pro-Am

For the eight straight year, the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund coordinated the amateur caddies for the Deutsche Bank Championship Pro-Am. The event was held on Thursday, September 2. Ouimet Fund Assistant Executive Director Colin McGuire and Assistant Director for Events and Club Relations David McAdams recruited over 160 of the total 208 caddies for the morning and afternoon sessions.

Tiger Woods Scholarship

Tiger WoodsTiger Woods meets Eche Ogah, 2006 winner of the Tiger Woods Foundation Ouimet endowed scholarship. Mr. Wood’s Foundation funded the award from proceeds of the Deutsche Bank Championship. Eche caddied for amateur Aubrey McClendon in Wood’s Pro-Am Group. Also in that group was Deutsche Bank America’s Chair Seth Waugh and EMC Sales Head Bill Scannell.

A group of 65 Ouimet Scholars were on hand for the August 31 Red Sox Pro Am. This is the eight year The Ouimet Fun has coordinated the caddie program for the amateur particpants in the Pro-Ams.



Corcoran Family Wins Ouimet Lowery
Tournament Again

Corcoran FamilyThe Corcoran family of Brookline repeated their 2008 victory as they claimed the 11th Annual Ouimet Lowery Tournament prize at Robert T. Lynch Golf Course at Putterham in Brookline on Saturday, August 28. Long-time Putterham Professional Jack Neville, a former NE PGA President and Ouimet board member, and Assistant Pro Brian Bain, a Ouimet Alumnus, coordinated the popular Ouimet fund raising event. The Corcoran family shot a 59 for Low Gross honors. Pictured at the Lowery-Ouimet statue are (L-R) are Jack Corcoran, Greg Corcoran, Gail Corcoran, and Brian Corcoran. NFL Alumni Presentation

Dave and Jane ParkerThe Ouimet Fund participated for the 13th time in the NFL Alumni New England Chapter tournament at Indian Ridge Country Club on August 2. Thirty-Six Ouimet Scholars acted as scorers for each group in the event which features former NFL greats. The event benefits the Ouimet's NFL Alumni Team Spirit endowed scholarship. Shawn Noonan of Catholic University and Indian Ridge was on hand to accept a plaque as 2009-2010 NFL Alumni Scholar. Dave and Jane Parker Scholarship Established

Dave and Jane ParkerDave and Jane Parker Scholarship established The Dave and Jane Parker Scholarship was announced and established on Sunday, August 8 at the 44th Igoe Memorial Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. The Igoe is a Ne PGA Pro-Am and the proceeds this year benefitted the Parker Scholarship, a new Ouimet endowed award. Ouimet Director and alum Ed Vahey and Dave Coughlin co-chaired the event.

Jane Parker and her late husband Dave have been involved as member at Wellesley for over 50 years. During those years each devoted countless hours to the club, the MGA and the WGAM and in support of The Ouimet Fund. They always showed a deep affinity for golf and golfers. Mr. Parker served as Club Secretary for many years and chaired or co-chaired the Igoe Memorial Tournament for 33 years. Mrs. Parker was also President of the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts in 1988. The first Dave and Jane Parker Scholarship will be awarded in 2011.



25th Onstott Invitational creates Dave Page and John Watt Scholarships

John WattThe 25th Invitational was played at Brae Burn Country Club on Monday, August 9 and its proceeds created new Ouimet endowed scholarships. Ouimet Director Joe Onstott and his wife, Pat Campbell, Ouimet Society Lifetime members, organized the event. Two years ago they used the event to create an endowed scholarship in the name of Joe’s late son, Kevin Onstott.

David Page was a devoted father of three children, loving husband and avid golfer. He was an active member of the Bald peak Colony Club in Melvin Village, NH, Calusa Pines in Naples, FL and Brae Burn. Always a competitor and fighter, he battled kidney cancer for over five years. His widow, Nancy Page, accepted a special plaque from Mr. Onstott and The Ouimet fund in a moving ceremony that announced the establishment of the award.

John Watt was born I 1922 in Southern California and passed away in December 2007. He served as a naval aviator in World War II in North Africa. He enjoyed a successful career in manufacturing.

Mr. Watt was an active golfer and traveler and enjoyed many trips with his wife and friends. He was a member of Woods Hole Golf Club, Milton Hoosic Club, Sea sland in Georgia and Willoughby GC in Stuart, FL. He was a Ouimet Fund supporter.


Oyster Harbors Club Leads Ouimet Marathon

Fundraiser Rick Stimets and golfer Chris Fischer of Oyster Harbors Club emerged as the top team in the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund’s 18th Golf Marathon on Wednesday. Fischer, the 30 year old Oyster Harbors assistant pro played 136 holes with $21,000 in fundraising to lead 40 clubs and organizations. The Marathon was played, as always, at Stow Acres Country Club’s South Course. read more

Vana Wins 5th Ouimet Memorial

Frank Vana, Jr. of Marlboro shook off a challenge from Mike Dunham with a two under par 34 on the final nine and hung on for a two under par 70, a two shot victory and his fifth title in the 43rd Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament at Woodland Golf Club on Friday. read more

The Ouimet Fund is very proud of its strong performance in a difficult economy and continued expense control efforts. The Francis Ouimet Fund's expense ratio has dropped from 6.8% as of March 31, 2008 to 5.9% as of March 31, 2009.
